Wendy was born in Babinda a very small town just south of Cairns (North Queensland) and grew up in the Tully/Mission Beach area. Moving to Townsville at 18, she met and married her husband Paul. They have 2 children (now all grown up) Melanie and Robbie.
After growing up surrounded by tropical rainforests and beautiful beaches, Wendy was so inspired with the colours and wildlife, that she became a wildlife artist. She has had numerous art exhibitions, even travelling to Brisbane for several of them.
Wendy and family then moved to Yandina (Sunshine Coast) in 1995, after 15 years of helping her husband make motorcycle clothing, she decided to find something else that would keep her artistically challenged.
Wendy decided to do a millinery course at the local TAFE. From day one of the course she was completely obsessed. Even researching the history of hats inspired Wendy to want to make the most wonderful creations. She feels that no matter how beautiful a ladies outfit is, it would look outstanding when worn with a matching hat or headpiece.
Wendy has been making hats now for seven years and painstakingly creates each piece entirely by hand. From handblocking the hats, dyeing the sinamay and feathers to handmaking all the silk flowers.
Her hats have won numerous prizes including 2005 & 2006 “Best Hat” Melbourne Cup day, and Oaks Day 2007 here on the Sunshine Coast.
Wendy can be found at the famous Eumundi Markets, where she is a stallholder (First Avenue) on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Wendy is able to give your outfit the finishing touch by creating something special (and totally original) just for you.
